Biography
Víctor Otero Carbonell, 1985
I have always felt the need to understand the people around me — their expressions, their thoughts, their inner world. Painting became an extension of that need. The canvas is a continuation of my mind, a space where I can explore what I cannot always articulate.
My figures carry emotion above all else. Whether painted from imagination or from life, what interests me is not likeness but the inner life of the subject — that quality in a face or a gesture that makes a stranger feel familiar, that invites the viewer to see something of themselves.
I have been painting professionally for fifteen years. My work is held in private collections across Europe, the United States and South Africa, and has been shown at the Museo Europeo de Arte Moderno (MEAM) in Barcelona and Galleri Ramfjord in Oslo. In 2023 I was selected as a finalist for Figurativas. In 2026 I will be teaching at Art Escape Italy, alongside artists including Tania Rivilis, Henrik Uldalen and Denis Sarazhin.
I am based between Barcelona and Milan.
